The Greenough River is an ephemeral river located in the Greenough Basin. It is 306km long and has a catchment of 12,568km2. The river system starts in the pastoral region north east of Mullewa and flows through the farming areas of east of Yuna and drains the farming areas of the City of Greater Geraldton. It enters the ocean at the Greenough River Estuary in Cape Burney, south of Geraldton. The estuary is ~7km long and only opens to the ocean following significant river flows. There are many culturally and ecologically important pools along the Greenough River, including Eradu, Ellendale and Beetalyinna.
