These data were collected in March 2023 by reviewing the December approved Ordinary Council Meeting minutes of each year from 2016 onwards, as posted on each of the Local Government Authority websites in the Northern Agricultural Region. The percentage is calculated as the number of Local Government Authorities that minuted an Acknowledgement of Country in December of each year divided by the total number of Local Government Authorities in the region (15). These data will be updated in March each year.
These data were collected in April 2022 by contacting local NRM groups (NGOs and small businesses) and local offices of the relevant government departments and asking them to share information on the number of Aboriginal people employed in their organisations at that time. Employment in NRM refers to employment in agriculture, nature conservation, environmental programs and protection of natural and cultural heritage sites. These data will be updated in March each year.
These data were collected in March 2023 by conducting a search for each Local Government Authority the NAR on the Aboriginal Heritage Inquiry System. These data will be updated in March each year by re-running the search described above and counting the number of new sites added in addition to those recorded in the previous years. We recognise that a number of culturally significant sites are not registered for a variety of reasons. These sites are still valuable and valued, and we work with Traditional Custodians to ensure that unregistered significant sites are also respected. It is also desirable to report on the number of conservation and preservation activities conducted at culturally significant sites, but these data are not systematically collected and reported in a central database at the present time.
